Demonstrate knowledge of the Approved Code of Practice

relating to chainsaw use
This unit standard is mainly intended for people employed in a forestry operation.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
describe duties assigned under the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act
demonstrate knowledge of the Rules for chainsaws contained in the Approved Code of Practice
describe requirements relating to the transport and use of chainsaw fuel
and describe personal protection and first aid requirements for chainsaw operators.

Demonstrate basic chainsaw operation

Designed as an introduction to chainsaw use, People credited with this unit standard are able to:
disassemble and reassemble a chainsaw, and identify and explain the main function of components
demonstrate knowledge of factors that influence the operation of a chainsaw,
prepare to operate a chainsaw, start and test a chainsaw,
and use a chainsaw to make cuts.
This unit standard is intended for those new to the forestry industry as well as chainsaw

users in industries other than commercial forestry.
